Niners Host Seahawks as Monday Betting Favorites

A divisional clash with potentially massive playoff implications closes out the Week 10 NFL schedule as the San Francisco 49ers play host to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football as 6-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.

San Francisco remained the NFL’s only unbeaten team with last week’s narrow 28-25 win over the Arizona Cardinals, which lifted its straight-up record to a perfect 8-0 going into Monday night’s game at Levi’s Stadium.

The 49ers have run up the score with regularity this season, especially on home turf, where they have outscored opponents by a wide 82-16 margin over their past two contests. As a result, the Niners’ potent offense ranks third in the NFL at 29.4 points scored per game so far in this NFL football season. However, the 49ers have struggled to produce consistent results against the NFL spread, covering in just three of their past six outings, and going 5-3 ATS overall this season.

The Niners have particularly struggled in recent dates while favored by five or more points on the NFL odds. San Francisco has claimed SU victories in each of its past seven such outings, but sports a dismal 2-11 ATS record in 13 contests since December 2013. Those numbers dip even further in home dates where the Niners are favored by at least five points, with the squad going 7-2 SU, but a meagre 1-8 ATS.

Also of concern is the 49ers’ record in recent home dates with the Seahawks. San Francisco ended a four-game SU slide at home against Seattle with last December’s 26-23 win as a 4-point underdog, which also marked just the second time over the Seahawks’ past seven visits that the team has earned an ATS win.

The 49ers’ struggles against Seattle reflect a wider trend that has seen them lose outright in 22 of their past 30 matchups with NFC West divisional rivals. San Francisco has taken enormous strides to reverse that trend over the past 12 months, claiming SU wins in three of their past four divisional matchups, but still remains a shaky bet on the NFL lines, where they have gone 3-8 ATS in their past 11.

Despite all those struggles, there is no denying that the Niners have emerged as the class of the NFC West this season. And with a 1.5-game lead over second-place Seattle entering Week 10, the 49ers are -350 favorites to claim their first division title since 2012, and a +700 wager to go 16-0 during the regular season.

 

Seahawks Looking to Improve Record Against Spread

 

The Seahawks travel to San Francisco riding high after outlasting the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers to post a 40-34 victory as 4-point home betting favorites last weekend. With the victory Seattle improved to 7-2 on the season, strengthening their grip on the NFC’s top wild card berth, and lifting them to a -180 wager to make the playoffs.

Seattle has built its record on solid play on the road, where they sport an unblemished 4-0 SU record. The team has largely remained an NFL betting disappointment this season, though, failing to cover in consecutive games while going 4-5 ATS. However, the Seahawks have regularly rewarded bettors when playing on the road while pegged as underdogs by fewer than seven points, winning outright in four of their past five while going a perfect 5-0 ATS.

The Seahawks averaged 28 points per game over those five outings, fueling a 4-0 run for the OVER in totals betting at the sportsbooks. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson has been the spark driving the Seahawks, who have scored 27 or more points in seven of their past eight outings. Wilson is coming off a spectacular five-touchdown performance last week against Tampa Bay, which has vaulted him to the top of the NFL MVP odds as a +285 favorite.
