Heisman Trophy Odds After Joe Burrow Outduels Tua Tagovailoa In Week 11

  • LSU’s Joe Burrow (-550) is now an overwhelming Heisman favorite
  • Tua Tagovailoa (+1000) dropped out of contention after accounting for an interception and a fumble in Saturday’s loss to LSU
  • Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is no longer listed on BetOnline after being suspended by the NCAA for 2 games

While the players are mostly the same, a lot has changed since we checked in on the Heisman Trophy contenders one week ago.

After throwing 393 passing yards and three touchdowns in LSU’s 46-41 win over Tua Tagovailoa and Alabama, Joe Burrow has taken an overwhelming lead in the award race.

With his odds of winning shortening from -110 last week to -550, Joe Burrow could get hit by a bus tomorrow and still take home the bronze sculpture. Let’s check the latest odds at BetOnline.

2019 NCAA HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS

Player Current Odds Trending Last Week
Joe Burrow (QB, LSU) -550 -110
Jalen Hurts (QB, Oklahoma) +1000 +250
Justin Fields (QB, Ohio State) +1000 +750
Tua Tagovailoa (QB, Alabama) +1000 +375

CHASE YOUNG OUT OF THE RACE

Growing media momentum moved Chase Young all the way to +800 last week, but the NCAA essentially eliminated any chance he had of winning the award by suspending the Buckeyes defensive end two games for a suspect rules violation.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound sack monster will now battle LSU’s senior quarterback on another front, as both Young and Burrow are the odds-on favorites to be picked No. 1 overall in next April’s NFL Draft.

TUA TAGOVAILOA HAS NO HOPE

If Alabama was able to come all the way back from its 33-13 halftime deficit, Tagovailoa would have been celebrated as a hero for returning from a severe ankle injury to throw for 418 yards and four touchdowns against LSU on Saturday.

Instead, detractors will focus on Tua’s interception, fumble and 52.5 percent completion rate, his lowest of the season.

Listed as a game-time decision for this weekend’s contest against Mississippi State, the Crimson Tide junior is a stupid bet (even at +1000) after losing his head-to-head battle with Burrow.

CAN ANYONE BEAT JOE BURROW?

Listed at 200-1 to start the season, Burrow is now a sure thing after throwing for 3,198 passing yards (78.9% completion rate), 33 touchdowns and just four interceptions in an undefeated season that saw big wins over Texas, Florida, Auburn and Alabama.

Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts (39) and Ohio State’s Justin Fields (37) have each accounted for more total touchdowns than Burrow (36) to this point, but both have compiled their numbers against subpar competition with known offensive geniuses calling the plays.

Hurts also has a loss on a resume while Fields is likely to be viewed as “not even the best player on his own team.”

With no ranked schools left on the Tigers’ schedule, there’s not much of an opportunity for Burrow to mess things up down the stretch.

The deadline for Heisman ballots to be submitted (Dec. 9) sits only two days after the conference championship games, so the 6-foot-4 quarterback would need to transform into Jake Delhomme and throw four picks just to make it close.

If you’re feeling lucky, throw some money on Fields at +1000. Otherwise, pony up for Burrow at -550. This thing is over.

Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle?

Last offseason, the NFL decided to ban the hip drop tackle. For those unaware, a hip drop tackle occurs when a tackler wraps up a ball carrier with both hands or arms then swivels his hips and unweights himself (leaves his feet) to complete the tackle. The result of the tackle typically leaves the tackler […] The post Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle? appeared first on Sportsbook Advisor . from Sportsbook Advisor https://ift.tt/m09iAka via IFTTT
