NFC East Matchup Has Cowboys as MNF Favorites

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to maintain their narrow lead atop the NFC East standings when they battle the division-rival New York Giants on Monday Night Football as 7-point road favorites on the NFL betting odds.

Dallas enjoyed a bye week last weekend after posting a decisive 37-10 win over Philadelphia as 3-point home chalk in Week 7, and holds a slim half-game lead over the Eagles in the divisional standings going into Monday night’s game at MetLife Stadium.

The Cowboys’ victory over Philadelphia proved to be very timely, snapping a three-game straight-up slide that threatened to bounce them from the NFL playoff picture. However, Dallas still has plenty of work to do to maintain the razor-thin lead over the Eagles that leaves the team perched as -130 favorites on the NFL odds to repeat as NFC East champions.

One of the major challenges facing the Cowboys is their urgent need to find consistency when playing on the road. Dallas currently rides a two-game SU losing streak away from AT&T Stadium, and owns a 4-8 SU road record since the beginning of the 2018 NFL football season.

The Cowboys have also emerged as a disappointment against the NFL spread, covering just once in their past four outings, and going 4-16 ATS in their past 20 contests as road favorites of seven or more points. However, the Dallas offense has demonstrated its ability to rack up big point totals on several occasions this season. The Cowboys have scored an average of 33.5 points per game in their four victories, and have averaged a respectable 24.2 points per game over their past five road dates, fueling a 4-1 run for the OVER in totals betting.

Dallas has also proven to be a reliable bet in recent road appearances on Monday Night Football, posting wins in seven of the team’s past eight. However, the Cowboys claimed victory by more than four points in just one of those contests, a 28-17 victory in Arizona in September 2017.

Giants Ride Losing Streak into Underdog Contest

While the Cowboys fight to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, the Giants return home searching for answers after falling 31-26 in Detroit last weekend as 6.5-point underdogs on the NFL lines, extending their current SU slide to four games.

The Giants have struggled badly while trying to contain opposing offenses during their current slide, surrendering 30.25 points per game over their four recent losses. Generating steady offense has also been a major concern with the team scoring 14 or fewer points on three occasions during a 1-5 SU run on home turf, and a meagre 17.8 points per game while going 5-15 SU over their past 20.

Things don’t get much better for the Giants when they play in primetime, as New York has picked up the win in just five of its past 17 appearances in primetime contests since October 2015. And the Giants’ losing ways also extend to recent matchups with Dallas, with the team falling to defeat in each of their past five meetings with the Cowboys. That run includes a pair of losses on home turf that dropped them to 2-5 SU in the Cowboys’ past seven visits to MetLife Stadium, with the Giants mustering just 10 points in two of their past three tilts.

Despite those dismal trends, the Giants have managed to keep it close in recent dates with Dallas, losing by more than a touchdown just once in their past seven matchups.
