Heisman Trophy Odds Update After Week 13: Burrow and Everyone Below

  • Joe Burrow’s odds to win the Heisman (-3000) got even shorter with another three touchdowns in Week 13
  • Chase Young (+1400) made returned from suspension, recording three sacks and two forced fumbles against Penn State
  • Justin Fields (+800) has the second-best odds despite barely playing in fourth quarters all season long

Could life be any better for Joe Burrow? A 40/1 longshot before the season, the senior quarterback is now a Heisman sure-thing.

At the helm of an 11-0 LSU team that has its ticket all but booked for the College Football Playoff, Burrow ranks second nationally in both passing yards (3,687) and passing touchdowns (38) and his 78.9 percent completion percentage puts him on track to set a new NCAA single-season record.

In fact, the only thing working against the soon-to-be 23-year-old is that he’s probably getting drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Before that dark reality takes hold, let’s look at the updated Heisman odds with only two more weeks of football until ballots are due.

2019 NCAA HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS

Player Current Odds Trending Last Week
Joe Burrow (QB, LSU) -3000 -2000
Justin Fields (QB, Ohio State) +800 +1000
Chase Young (DE, Ohio State) +1400 N/A
Jalen Hurts (QB, Oklahoma) +2000 +900

JOE BURROW

After throwing three more touchdowns in a 56-20 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Burrow is now just seven passing scores away from breaking the single-season SEC record (44).

That would be even more impressive if the record wasn’t held by Drew Lock, a now Broncos rookie who can’t even get a sniff of game action. And get this – he is also closing in on the single-season SEC passing yardage record (4,275 yards) held by none other than Cleveland-Browns-draft bust Tim Couch.

With Texas A&M and Georgia (in the SEC championship game) on the schedule, Burrow only needs to average 294 passing yards over the next two weeks to set the record.

He will likely receive his bronze statue on Dec. 14 in New York City, be drafted by the Bengals in April, and move to an abandoned cabin in the woods sometime around 2024.

CHASE YOUNG AND JUSTIN FIELDS

Now, that my friend, is how you return from suspension. Seemingly poking a finger in the eye of the outdated and out-of-touch NCAA, Chase Young racked up two forced fumbles, three sacks, four tackles for loss and nine total tackles in a 28-17 win over Penn State.

Clearly the most dominant player in college football, the Buckeyes defensive end leads the country in sacks with 16.5 over nine games. He has also seemed to elevate his play against top competition, recording 18 tackles (10.5 for loss), 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in three games against current Top 25 teams.

Back up to +1400 after being off the board altogether following his suspension, the 20-year-old line-wrecker has two more showcase games left. First, a trip to the Big House to face No. 10 Michigan and then the Big Ten title game in two weeks.

His Ohio State teammate Justin Fields also saw his odds improve from +1000 last week to +800 despite losing two fumbles against the Nittany Lions.

A tailor-made fit for coach Ryan Day’s scheme, the sophomore QB has amassed 2,797 all-purpose yards and 43 combined scores against just five turnovers while leading the 11-0 Buckeyes to a sure spot in the four-team semi-finals.

The only problem is that Ohio State has been too good. Thanks to blowing out opponents on the regular, Fields only has 16 pass attempts and 13 carries in the fourth quarter all season. An absolute killer for his Heisman hopes.

One month into the college football season and things don’t really look how we expected.
