The top two teams in the NFC standings will clash on Sunday night in Week 12 as the San Francisco 49ers host the Green Bay Packers as 3-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.
San Francisco continues a stretch of three straight home games after topping the division-rival Arizona Cardinals 36-26 last weekend to improve the team’s conference-leading straight up record to 9-1 going into Sunday night’s game at Levi’s Stadium.
Winners of six or fewer games in each of the past four seasons, the Niners have enjoyed a dramatic turnaround this season, which has lifted them among the favorites on the Super Bowl odds as a short +700 bet, ahead of the Packers, who lag at +1000.
But while San Francisco currently sits second in the NFL in team scoring, averaging 29.5 points per game, and 34.75 points per game over its past four outings, the team has emerged as an NFL betting disappointment. The 49ers have posted just one win against the NFL spread in their past five outings, and sport a 1-2-1 ATS record on home turf this season.
The Niners have been a particularly risky wager in recent outings while pegged as a favorite on the NFL lines by fewer than four points, losing outright in eight of their past nine while going winless ATS during that stretch.
However, with the team regularly running up the score, San Francisco has produced steady results in totals betting, with the OVER prevailing in each of its past four contests, ending a 5-1 run for the UNDER to start the current campaign.
This weekend’s matchup will mark San Francisco’s first appearance on Sunday Night Football since 2015. The 49ers have fallen to defeat in five of their past six appearances overall, and sport a middling 4-4 SU record in their past eight SNF contests on home turf, but are a perfect 3-0 SU in three previous home appearances on Sunday nights in the month of November.
San Francisco has also generated streaky results in recent meetings with the Packers, falling to defeat in each of its past two meetings after claiming victory in four straight previous contests. The 49ers have also generated big point totals with regularity when facing Green Bay, scoring 30 or more points in four of their past six tilts, but struggled offensively in a 17-3 loss in the Packers’ last visit four years ago.
Packers Seeking Victory as Road Dog on NFL Odds
Currently the No. 2 seed in the NFC, edging out the New Orleans Saints on their win percentage in conference matchups, the Packers enter Week 12 sporting a narrow half-game lead over the second-place Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North standings.
Green Bay enjoyed a bye in Week 11 after recording a decisive 24-16 win over the visiting Carolina Panthers as 5-point home chalk on the Week 11 NFL odds. But the Packers suffered a stunning 26-11 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in their last road outing three weeks ago, snapping a four-game SU and ATS win streak in contests away from Lambeau Field.
The Packers’ loss in Los Angeles as 5-point favorites also extended their recent struggles to generate offense on the road. Green Bay has scored 11 or fewer points in two of four road outings this season, and has tallied 17 or fewer points in seven of its past 13 road dates, going 1-6 SU and ATS in those contests.
Appearances on Sunday Night Football have also ended with mixed results for Green Bay. The Packers earned a 31-24 win in Kansas City in their lone SNF appearance this season, but sport a dismal 2-8 SU record in their past 10 Sunday primetime contests.
