Chargers vs. Chiefs in Mexico City on Monday Night

The NFL scene shifts to Mexico City this weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs clash with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football as 4-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.

Kansas City travels south of the border looking to rebound after suffering a 35-32 loss in Tennessee last weekend that marked the team’s fourth loss in six outings going into Monday night’s game at Estadio Azteca.

The Chiefs’ recent woes come on the heels of a fast start to the NFL football season that saw them post straight-up wins in each of their first four contests while covering the NFL spread on three occasions. The team has been dramatically impacted by a series of injuries to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The reigning NFL MVP has struggled with a nagging ankle injury since early in the campaign, and was subsequently forced to miss two contests after suffering a serious knee injury in a 30-6 win in Denver in Week 7.

With Mahomes hobbled, the Chiefs have struggled to maintain momentum on both sides of the ball. In addition to a 2-4 SU run that leaves them holding on to first place in the AFC West standings by just a half-game over the resurgent Oakland Raiders, the Chiefs have also surrendered big point totals with regularity during their current swoon, allowing 24.2 points per game over their past six outings, and 32.3 points per game over their past three defeats.

While Kansas City has produced unpredictable results on the scoreboard, it has steadily rewarded bettors taking the OVER in totals betting, which has prevailed in each of the team’s past three games, fueling a 6-2 run over their past eight contests.

The Chiefs have also produced mixed results on the road over the past year. While last weekend’s loss to the Titans marked Kansas City’s first SU road defeat in five outings, the team has struggled to pay out on the NFL lines, going 3-4-1 against the spread in eight dates away from Arrowhead Stadium since November of last year.

Kansas City has also been a disappointment when making road appearances on Monday Night Football, losing outright in five of the team’s past six while giving up 32.5 points per game. Despite being faced with the task of overcoming those trends, the Chiefs continue to show resilience on the NFL odds, where they are -350 chalk to repeat as AFC West champions.

Mahomes also sports favorable odds of continuing his return to form on Monday night, with strong -135 odds of throwing for more than two touchdowns for a fifth time this season, and is also pegged as a short -160 bet to not have a pass intercepted.

Chargers Coming off Loss as Betting Favorite

Considered the official home team in Monday night’s contest, the Chargers are also on the rebound after dropping a 26-24 decision in Oakland as 1.5-point chalk last week on Thursday Night Football.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Los Angeles after the team compiled a 12-4 record last season. The Chargers have tallied consecutive wins just once while going 4-6 over their first 10 outings including a 2-3 SU and ATS record in five contests away from their home field at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Los Angeles has risen to the occasion while pegged as an NFL betting underdog this season, posting outright victories over both Chicago and Green Bay. But like Kansas City, the Chargers sport a dismal record on Monday Night Football, losing outright in seven of eight appearances including a pair of road losses.

The Chargers have also struggled against the Chiefs, picking up just one SU win in 10 meetings, and covering just three times over their past 12 matchups.
