Super Bowl Odds After Week 8 See Packers and 49ers on the Rise

  • The Patriots (+225) and Saints (+500) are Super Bowl favorites in their respective conferences
  • The Packers (+800) are once again contenders with Aaron Rodgers recapturing his old MVP form
  • The 49ers (+800) are still undefeated after dismantling the Panthers in Week 8

Have you ever attended a wedding where you thought to yourself, “Well, this relationship will never last.”

Entering the season, that’s exactly how everyone seemed to feel about the Aaron Rodgers-Matt Lafleur nuptials. But, at the midway point of the season, the first-time head coach and Hall-of-Fame quarterback instead resemble that sexy couple who keep posting lovey-dovey Instagram pics that make you want to puke.

LaFleur is the first Packers coach in the franchise’s 101-year history to start his career 7-1 and Rodgers is putting up MVP-type numbers. Now sitting at +800 to win the Super Bowl, Green Bay has made a Lambeau-leap up the board after Week 8. Let’s check out the latest odds at Bet Online.

GREEN BAY PACKERS

Saddled with Mike McCarthy for far, far too long, Rodgers looks reborn through the season’s first eight games. The 35-year-old is on pace for 4,600 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and four interceptions. His 107.9 passer rating is also his highest since 2014, when he won his second-career MVP.

Coach LaFleur is keeping his veteran quarterback happy by scheming guys open on first and second downs and allowing Rodgers to maintain autonomy in the red zone and in the two-minute drill.

Just as the Rams did last year with a healthy Todd Gurley, the Sean McVay-disciple is also running the offense through Aaron Jones.

Looking borderline unstoppable in the Packers’ 31-24 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday night, the powerful third-year back already has 466 yards on the ground and 355 through the air with 11 combined touchdowns this season.

With Davante Adams poised to return to the lineup after missing the last four games with turf toe, it’s hard to believe that LaFleur’s offense could still reach another level.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Since we covered the Saints, Rams, Vikings and Cowboys last week, let’s move to the NFC’s most-surprising Super Bowl contender.

San Francisco laid waste to the Panthers in a 51-13 Week 8 win, intercepting the previously-unbeaten Kyle Allen three times and possibly easing Carolina’s transition back to Cam Newton.

At only 22 years of age,  Nick Bosa became the second-youngest player to record at least three sacks in a single game since 1982. The rookie defensive end also added a highlight-reel interception that’s earning him buzz for Defensive Player of the Year.

Via Aaron Schatz from Football Outsiders, the 49ers are now sitting with the eighth-highest DVOA of all-time, just behind this year’s edition of the Patriots who rank third all-time. Like New England, Kyle Shanahan’s crew has been downgraded by Twitter-types for having an easy schedule, but there’s nothing fraudulent about San Francisco.

At +800, the 49ers have the same title odds as the Packers and sit just behind the Saints (+500) and Patriots (+225).

One month into the college football season and things don’t really look how we expected.
