Steelers Heavy Favorites for Monday Night Football

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking to record consecutive wins for the first time since last November when they host the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football as heavy 14-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.

Pittsburgh enjoyed a bye in Week 7 after posting a 24-17 upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers as a 6-point road underdog to improve its straight-up record to 2-4 on the season going into Monday night’s game at Heinz Field.

The Steelers have shown signs of life in recent outings after opening the NFL football campaign on a three-game SU slide, posting outright wins in two of their past three contests. Pittsburgh has also returned to its winning ways on the NFL lines, going 3-0-1 against the spread over the team’s past four contests after earning ATS wins in just two of their previous eight outings.

Despite their recent success, though, the Steelers have plenty of work to do to return to contention in the AFC North, where they continue to lag at +550 on the divisional odds. Overall, the Steelers have compiled a middling 4-8 SU record in their past 12 contests while failing to record consecutive wins during that stretch.

Pittsburgh has enjoyed little success on home turf during their 11-month-long swoon, eking out a 3-3 SU record while covering in two of those contests, but managed to keep it close in a pair of home losses this season, losing to Baltimore and Seattle by just five combined points.

The Steelers have also risen to the occasion against struggling opponents. In addition to contributing to the Chargers’ disappointing three-game slide with their Week 6 upset win, Pittsburgh dominated in a Week 4 clash with Cincinnati, handing the winless Bengals a 27-3 beating as 3.5-point home chalk in NFL betting.

The team now has a second opportunity to kick start their season against another winless opponent in Monday’s date with the Dolphins. The Steelers are 5-2 SU in their last seven home meetings with Miami, capped by a 30-12 win as 11.5-point favorites on Wild Card Weekend in January 2017. Pittsburgh has also regularly rewarded bettors in recent dates with the Dolphins, going 3-0-1 against the NFL spread in their past four overall meetings.

The Steelers have also been a force to be reckoned with when playing on Monday Night Football, posting SU wins in 14 of 16 appearances and each of their past seven, including a 3-0 win over Miami back in 2007.

Dolphins Ride Long Losing Streak into Monday Night

None of this is good news for the lowly Dolphins, who travel to face the Steelers searching for an end to a nine-game SU losing streak. Miami is coming off arguably their strongest performance of the season in a 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, covering as 17-point road chalk on the NFL odds to claim their second straight ATS win.

However, it has been a dismal campaign overall for Miami, which sits at or near the bottom of most team stats through the first seven weeks of the season. The Dolphins sit dead last in the NFL, alongside the New York Jets, with just 10.5 points scored per game while allowing a league-worst 35.2 points per game.

The team’s ground game ranks 31st in the NFL averaging just 66.7 yards per outing, while quarterback Josh Rosen has struggled to spark a passing attack that has averaged a 30th-ranked 192.0 yards per game and produced just four total touchdowns.

The result has been massively low expectations on the NFL odds, with the 0-6 Dolphins looking toward Monday night as double-digit underdogs for the fourth time in their six outings this season. But while Miami is a dismal 1-14 SU overall in its past 15 road games, the team owns a respectable 12-8 ATS mark in their past 20 as double-digit road underdogs.

Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle?

Last offseason, the NFL decided to ban the hip drop tackle. For those unaware, a hip drop tackle occurs when a tackler wraps up a ball carrier with both hands or arms then swivels his hips and unweights himself (leaves his feet) to complete the tackle. The result of the tackle typically leaves the tackler […] The post Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle? appeared first on Sportsbook Advisor . from Sportsbook Advisor https://ift.tt/m09iAka via IFTTT
