Updated World Series Odds Ahead of Spring Training See Both NY Teams in Top-5

  • BetOnline has the Yankees (+350) as World Series favorites with the Dodgers (+600) as the best bet in the National League
  • The Mets’ new manager, Luis Rojas, will inherit one of the best starting rotations in baseball
  • The Angels (+2000) hope Joe Maddon and Anthony Rendon can finally get Mike Trout a playoff win

When college teams cheat, penalties and sanctions usually keep the guilty schools out of the limelight for awhile. But there is no “death penalty” in pro sports it seems.

After running an electronic sign-stealing scandal that made the Patriots’ spygate look like a quaint mom-and-pop operation, the Houston Astros not only get to keep their 2017 title, they get to be contenders again this season after only losing a measly $5 million, a couple of draft picks, plus a GM and a manager.

In fact, oddsmakers currently give Houston (+700) the third-best odds to win the 2020 World Series. Let’s look at the full board, courtesy of BetOnline, and find some value.

TEAMS IMPACTED BY THE CHEATING SCANDAL

The Astros (+700) are still seeking replacements for manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow, but whoever takes the job will inherit the second-best offense in MLB history.

While José Altuve, Alex Bregman and company try to prove that last year’s success wasn’t due to trash cans and hidden buzzers, reigning Cy Young-winner Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke will anchor the rotation after Gerrit Cole left for the Yankees, who are heavy favorites to win the World Series at +350.

The Mets (+1400) and Red Sox (+2500) also suffered collateral damage from the scandal, firing their respective managers, Carlos Beltran and Alex Cora, after both were named in the commissioner’s report. New York already filled their opening with Luis Rojas, the son of former Expos bench boss Felipe Alou, while Boston’s search continues.

POTENTIAL SLEEPERS

After leading the Cubs to their first World Series title in over a century, Joe Maddon now embarks on his greatest challenge yet: helping three-time and reigning American League MVP Mike Trout finally win his first playoff game.

The Angels (+2000) should get a boost from free-agent signing Anthony Rendon, who hit.319 with 34 homers and an NL-leading 126 RBIs with the Nationals last season before somehow becoming even more clutch in the postseason.

Hot-stove rumors suggest Boston may be shipping All-Star outfielder Mookie Betts to San Diego to join Fernando Tatís Jr. and Manny Machado in a tantalizing move that would likely cause the Padres‘ odds (+2500) to spike. For now, however, their NL West division rivals in Arizona might be the better bet.

The Diamondbacks (+3300) already signed three-time World Series champion Madison Bumgarner to anchor their rotation and are being touted as a possible trade destination for 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant, who hit .282 for the Cubs last year with 31 home runs and 77 RBIs.

NCAAF 2021 Regular Season – Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

One month into the college football season and things don’t really look how we expected. While Alabama sitting at #1 is nothing new, seeing the likes of Ohio State and Clemson outside the top 10 at this stage of the season is a little jarring.
