NFC Wild Card Game Odds Favor Saints, Seahawks

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are the biggest betting favorites on the board for the NFL’s Wild Card Weekend as they host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday as 8-point chalk.

The 13-3 Saints fell just short of a first-round bye thanks to tiebreakers, forcing them into a Wild Card Weekend matchup as the No. 3 seed in the NFC field. New Orleans has managed to pick up the win in six of its last seven games heading into the playoffs, including a convincing 42-10 win at the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 as 14-point betting favorites.

New Orleans easily covered the spread in that victory over Carolina, and the Saints were one of the most profitable teams against the NFL spread this past season at 11-5. That strong ATS mark was built mostly on the road however, with New Orleans 7-1 ATS in its eight road games this past season compared to just 4-4 ATS at home.

The Saints got another solid outing from Brees in that win over the Panthers, as the veteran quarterback completed 19 of 30 passes for 253 yards with three touchdowns on the day.

Minnesota claimed a Wild Card berth on the strength of a 10-6 SU (9-7 ATS) record on the season, which left them three games behind the Green Bay Packers in the chase for top spot in the NFC North standings. The Vikings, though, have lost two straight games heading into the playoffs, falling 21-19 at home to the Chicago Bears in Week 17 as 5-point underdogs on the NFL betting odds in a meaningless game for them in which they rolled out their backups.

The Vikings lost their most recent game against the Saints back in October 2018, falling 30-20 as 2.5-point home underdogs in that contest. Overall Minnesota is 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games against New Orleans dating back over a decade, with the OVER paying out on the NFL betting lines in seven of those games.

Kickoff for Vikings at Saints at the Superdome on Sunday afternoon is set for 1:05pm ET.

Seahawks Road Favorites at Eagles Late on Sunday

The lone home underdogs on Wild Card Weekend are the Philadelphia Eagles, who are set as 2.5-point underdogs against the Seattle Seahawks later on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles needed just a 9-7 SU (7-9 ATS) record to slip into the playoffs as the NFC East champion, holding off the 8-8 Dallas Cowboys for the division title with a four-game winning streak.

The key win for the Eagles in that stretch was a 17-9 victory over the Cowboys as 2-point home underdogs on the NFL spread in Week 16, with Philadelphia then also getting past the New York Giants 34-17 as 3.5-point road favorites on the NFL lines in their Week 17 contest.

The Seahawks, meanwhile, fell 26-21 to the San Francisco 49ers as 3.5-point home underdogs in Week 17 to settle for a Wild Card berth in the postseason, with Seattle losing three of its last four games in a late-season slide. The Seahawks went 0-3-1 ATS in that stretch, and despite posting an 11-5 SU mark on the season they were just 7-8-1 ATS overall.

Seattle is 7-3 both SU and ATS in its last 10 games against Philadelphia since the 2001 season, with the Seahawks topping the Eagles 17-9 as a 2-point road favorite when the teams met back in Week 12. Russell Wilson threw for 200 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks that day, and Carson Wentz passed for 256 yards and a TD for the Eagles.

Kickoff for Seahawks at Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon is set for 4:40pm ET.
