The Kansas City Chiefs will be aiming to extend their current straight-up win streak to five games when they travel to the Windy City this weekend to battle the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football as 6-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.
Kansas City continued its late-season dominating run last weekend with a 23-3 rout of the Denver Broncos as a 9-point home favorite, and has now covered the NFL spread in six of eight contests going into Sunday night’s matchup at Soldier Field.
The Chiefs’ current run of success on the betting lines also includes ATS wins in each of their past four outings. The team also clinched top spot in the AFC West standings during their current win streak, locking up a fourth straight divisional crown with a 23-16 win in New England as 3-point road underdogs on the NFL lines.
Kansas City still remains one game back of the second-seeded Patriots, leaving the team with plenty of work to do to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs. And with the Chiefs trailing the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens by two games with just two weeks remaining on the schedule, they trail in NFL betting at +2800 on the odds to finish atop the AFC conference standings. However, the Chiefs continue to sit among the favorites on the Super Bowl odds, closely trailing the Patriots at +650.
While Kansas City has built a reputation as an offensive powerhouse, the team has played outstanding defense during its recent surge, surrendering just 11.25 points per game over its past four outings, and allowing just one scoring run during that stretch. The Chiefs’ recent victory over the Patriots also extended their stretch of steady play on the road this season, where they own a 6-1 SU record, 5-2 ATS, with their lone outright defeat coming with no time left on the clock in a 35-32 loss in Tennessee in Week 10.
But while the Chiefs’ recent 24-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers came on Monday Night Football, they have otherwise struggled when playing in prime time, going 2-5 SU in their past seven night games, including SU losses in each of their past three appearances on Sunday Night Football. Kansas City has also produced checkered results in recent dates with the Bears, going 4-5 SU in their past nine overall, while going 2-2 SU in four visits to Soldier Field, and covering in three of those road dates.
Bears Struggling ATS Over Their Past 10 Games
The Bears return home after being eliminated from playoff contention with last weekend’s 21-13 loss in Green Bay as 4.5-point underdogs on the NFL odds. The defeat put the brakes on a three-game SU win streak that had kept the Bears’ playoff hopes alive late into the NFL football season. However, Chicago continued to be a betting disappointment during its recent surge, covering just once in its three recent wins and going 2-8 ATS in its past 10 contests.
And like Kansas City, the Bears have also struggled to produce consistent results when playing in prime time. The Bears have alternated between SU wins and losses over their past four night games, including a 17-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams as 5.5-point road underdogs in Week 11 that snapped a two-game SU win streak in appearances on Sunday Night Football.
Despite those uninspiring betting trends, Chicago continues to perform well on defense. The Bears have given up just 18.2 points per game over their past six outings, and just 17 points per game during a 3-1 SU run on home turf.
