The New York Giants are expected to have veteran quarterback Eli Manning under center when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football as 9.5-point road underdogs on the NFL betting odds.
Benched earlier in the NFL football season in favor of rookie passer Daniel Jones, Manning returns to action in a bid to lift New York out of the eight-game straight-up losing streak that it takes into Monday night’s matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.
Generating offense has steadily emerged as major problem for the Giants, who have tumbled to 2-10 on the year during their eight-game slide, leaving them at risk of finishing at the bottom of the NFL standings and making them a short +300 bet on the NFL lines to garner the first pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
The Giants have averaged just 13.5 points over their past two outings, which featured losses to Chicago and Green Bay, and have scored 18 or fewer points in five of their eight recent defeats. At the same time, New York has struggled badly in their attempt to shut down opposing offenses, surrendering 30.25 points per game during their current slide.
New York has been equally disappointing to bettors, falling to defeat against the NFL spread in six of its past eight contests. However, the Giants own a rather impressive record when pegged as betting underdogs of nine or more points, losing outright in each of their past three, but going 11-3 ATS in NFL betting over their past 14.
And while the Giants have long fallen out of playoff contention, they have managed to keep things close in recent road dates, losing by seven or fewer points in each of their past three away losses. In addition, New York has produced respectable results in recent road appearances on Monday Night Football, going 2-2 SU on the NFL odds in their past four.
Eagles in Race for First Place in NFC East Standings
While the Giants enter the home stretch of the season playing for pride, and for jobs, the Eagles enter Week 14 desperate for a win in a bid to close the gap on the Dallas Cowboys in the race for first place in the NFC East.
Racked by injuries that have devastated their offense, the Eagles have lost three in a row to fall to 5-7, while failing to seize ample opportunity to overtake the struggling Cowboys in the divisional standings. In addition to losing veteran rusher Darren Sproles for the season, the Eagles have also seen receivers Alshon Jeffrey and DeSean Jackson get sidelined, and could also be missing running backs Jordan Howard and Corey Clement on Monday night.
With some of their top offensive threats hobbled, the Eagles have lost two straight on home turf, mustering just 19 total points in losses to New England and Seattle, and following up with a stunning 37-31 loss to the Miami Dolphins as 10.5-point road chalk last weekend.
The Eagles have also been a betting disappointment when playing at home, going 2-4 ATS this season, including a 2-2 ATS record as betting favorites. However, Philadelphia has produced steady results in recent appearances on Monday Night Football. The Eagles have claimed outright victory in each of their past three MNF appearances, with an average margin of victory of 11.3 points, and are 5-1 SU in their past six MNF appearances on home turf.
That run includes a decisive 27-7 victory over the Giants in their last Monday Night Football matchup in Philadelphia, back in 2015. The Eagles have posted wins in nine of their past 10 meetings with the Giants, including five straight victories on home turf, but have failed to cover in their past two home dates.
