Heisman Trophy Odds Update After Week 14: Burrow Running Away With Award

  • Joe Burrow (-2500) will almost certainly be the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner come Saturday, Dec. 14
  • Justin Fields (+1200) has the second-best odds despite barely playing in the fourth quarter this season
  • Chase Young (+2200) and Jalen Hurts (+2500) are in the running for invites to the ceremony in New York

One of the coolest moments of the college football season took place in Baton Rouge on Saturday when Joe Burrow saluted the state of Louisiana by wearing the name “Burreaux” on the back of his pregame jersey.

In his final act on his home field, the LSU senior added 352 passing yards and three touchdowns to his staggering season totals, leading the Tigers to a 50-7 win over Texas A&M. The win capped LSU’s first undefeated regular season since 2011.

Needless to say, Burrow is still the overwhelming Heisman favorite. Before all the award contenders embark on their final week to impress voters, let’s look at the latest odds at Bovada.

2019 NCAA HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS

Player Current Odds Trending Last Week
Joe Burrow (QB, LSU) -2500 -3000
Justin Fields (QB, Ohio State) +1200 +800
Chase Young (DE, Ohio State) +2200 +1400
Jalen Hurts (QB, Oklahoma) +2500 +2000

JOE BURROW

Burrow has basically locked up the Heisman after throwing for an SEC-record 4,366 yards and 44 touchdowns this season, but he should be plenty motivated for the conference championship game against No. 4 Georgia this Saturday.

After all, it was in last year’s game against Georgia that Burrow apparently started to win teammates over, passing for 200 yards and running for two touchdowns in a 36-16 win.

Turning 23 next Tuesday, Burrow’s early birthday present to himself can be crushing the playoff dreams of Bulldogs fans.

Expect Burrow to keep LSU’s perfect season intact. If the Tigers lose, they are likely to drop to No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which would mean a date with No. 1 Ohio State in the semifinals if chalk holds elsewhere.

OHIO STATE: HEISMAN RUNNER-UP UNIVERSITY?

When the Heisman finalists are announced on Monday, it’s likely that No. 1 Ohio State (12-0) will become the first school since 1973 with three players among the top ten in voting.

Justin Fields (+1200) likely sealed his invite to the Heisman ceremony in Times Square with a breathtaking performance in the Big House (302 passing yards, four touchdowns) on Saturday.

After leading his Buckeyes to a 56-27 win over their “rivals” in Michigan, the Georgia transfer now has 47 total touchdowns and one only interception through 12 games despite rarely having the opportunity to play in the 4th quarter.

Chase Young (+2200) was strangely held without a sack against the Wolverines, but he should still be among one of the Heisman finalists invited to New York after a dominant 16.5-sack season.

His presence at the ceremony will be determined by how many pearl-clutching media members decide to punish the Buckeyes defensive end for the NCAA violation that resulted in a two-game suspension.

Jalen Hurts (+2500) can rubber-stamp his trip to the Big Apple with a strong performance against Baylor in the Big 12 Championship, and possibly sneak into the College Football Playoff.

Sitting just one touchdown shy of 50 this season, the Oklahoma senior will almost certainly join Burrow and Fields as Heisman finalists.
