The Baltimore Ravens will be looking to extend their season-high straight-up win streak to 10 games when they return home this week to face the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football as heavy 15.5-point favorites on the NFL betting odds.
Baltimore continued its impressive run in Week 14, disposing of the Buffalo Bills with a 24-17 victory that also guaranteed the team a playoff berth. The win also solidified the team’s position as a strengthening +215 favorite atop the Super Bowl odds going into Thursday night’s matchup at M&T Bank Stadium.
While the Ravens have been lauded for their impressive offensive performances during their current surge, which have lifted them to the top of the NFL team stats with 33.1 points scored per game, they have also impressed on defense of late. Baltimore has limited opponents to just 15.1 points per game over the course of its 9-0 SU run, fueling a 6-1 run against the NFL spread over its past seven contests.
However, with the Ravens posting wins by double-digit margins on five occasions during their current surge, bettors have been forced to settle for mixed results in totals betting, with the UNDER going 5-6 on the NFL lines in their past 11 overall outings, but 3-1 in their past four home contests.
And while the Ravens sport a solid 5-1 SU record on home turf so far in this NFL football season, they have allowed opponents to keep things close, with three of their five home victories coming by six or fewer points. That has made Baltimore a shaky option on the NFL odds when playing on home turf, going 2-4 ATS in its six home outings to date.
The Ravens have also been somewhat of an NFL betting disappointment when pegged as heavy favorites of 10 or more points. Baltimore has won outright in each of its past 12 outings while pegged as double-digit chalk, including 11 straight on home turf. But the Ravens have covered just three times during that stretch, and have gone a meagre 1-2 ATS this season in such outings. That trend remains shaky in recent contests with Baltimore favored by 14 or more points. While the Ravens have never lost when favored by at least two touchdowns, they have failed to cover the spread in their past three, all on home turf.
Jets Have Had Dramatic Reversal in Recent Weeks
The Jets travel to Baltimore on a high after getting past the Miami Dolphins with a 22-21 win in Week 14 to improve to 4-1 SU over their past five contests. That marks a dramatic reversal in fortune for the Jets, who stumbled to a 1-7 SU record out of the gate, while scoring more than 18 points just once during that stretch.
Quarterback Sam Darnold has been largely steady during the Jets’ resurgence, connecting on nine scoring passes against just two picks over their past five outings. However, injuries have emerged as a concern in New York, which escaped with a win against the Dolphins as 5-point home chalk despite being without running back Le’Veon Bell and safety Jamal Adams, who joined a growing list of Jets players on the shelf and whose status remains uncertain for Thursday night.
And while the Jets have impressed so far in the second half of the campaign, they have continued to struggle on the road, going 1-5 SU away from MetLife Stadium so far this season, capped by a 22-6 loss to the lowly Cincinnati Bengals as 2.5-point road chalk in Week 13.
