Panthers Favorites on Thursday NFL Betting Odds

After coming up short in their season opener at home last weekend the Carolina Panthers will be looking to get back on track on Thursday night as betting favorites of almost a touchdown on the NFL odds hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Bank of America Stadium.

Carolina is listed as a 6.5-point favorite on the NFL betting odds at home against Tampa Bay on Thursday night, after they fell 30-27 as 1.5-point home underdogs to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. That game turned out to be an OVER result for bettors on the NFL lines. The early OVER/UNDER for Thursday’s Panthers/Bucs matchup is pegged at 50.5 points.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton completed 25 of 38 pass attempts for 239 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in that losing cause. That left the bulk of Carolina’s offense to Christian McCaffrey, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns and also caught 10 passes for 81 yards. Alex Armah also ran for a one-yard score for Carolina in the contest.

The Buccaneers, meanwhile, were set as small 1-point home favorites on the NFL spread in their opener against the San Francisco 49ers on the weekend, but managed to lose that game 31-17 despite their chalk status. That combined score was an UNDER for totals bettors.

Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston was good on only 20 of his 36 pass attempts for 194 yards with one touchdown strike and three interceptions in the loss to the Niners, for an ugly QB rating of just 45.4. Chris Godwin had three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown on the day, while Vernon Hargreaves returned an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter.

That has the Panthers and the Bucs both at 0-1 SU and ATS heading into Thursday night.

Panthers Have Edge on NFL Betting Trends

The Panthers and Buccaneers split their two meetings last season both SU and ATS, but over the past five seasons Carolina has had the edge at 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in the 10 games between the divison rivals. The OVER/UNDER has trended heavily toward the UNDER on the NFL football lines in that span, with the OVER only managing to pay out three times.

Last season Carolina topped Tampa Bay 42-28 and covered the spread as a 6-point home favorite on November 4, in an OVER result for totals bettors. The Buccaneers then got some revenge on December 2, winning 24-17 as 3.5-point home underdogs in an UNDER result.

Going back even further, the Panthers are 20-10 SU and 18-12 ATS in their past 30 games against the Buccaneers dating back to 2004. The UNDER paid out in 16 of those games.

Both teams will be looking to pick up victories on Thursday night in hopes of getting on an early-season run with very winnable contests coming up for each of them in Week 3. The Panthers head out on the road to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale in Week 3, while Tampa Bay will be at home at Raymond James Stadium to host the New York Giants.

Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle?

Last offseason, the NFL decided to ban the hip drop tackle. For those unaware, a hip drop tackle occurs when a tackler wraps up a ball carrier with both hands or arms then swivels his hips and unweights himself (leaves his feet) to complete the tackle. The result of the tackle typically leaves the tackler […] The post Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle? appeared first on Sportsbook Advisor . from Sportsbook Advisor https://ift.tt/m09iAka via IFTTT
