Remote Darts League

This weekend will see the welcome addition of new live sports content – courtesy of the recently formed Remote Darts League (RDL). Over a 10-day period starting Saturday 18 th at 21:30pm GMT, 10 professional WDF players, including Jim Williams who tops the BDO rankings, will be competing for the inaugural RDL trophy, plus of course the bragging rights. It all culminates on day 10 with the top 4 players in the league competing in a semi/finals knockout contest. After a couple of days respite, a new tournament starts again.

Players are playing from home and have been practising hard with the remote technology to make this a great spectacle. £25k in prize money is up for grabs, so this is fun, but serious fun. Matches will be available to watch on youtube live and also on selected bookmaker sites. “It’s great to be able to offer some high-quality live sports content in these difficult times”, notes Kevin Dale, Producer from the host organisation Farawaysports. “Bookmakers are keen to get their hands on some real content, whilst darts fans will be pleased to see many familiar faces at the oche – all hosted by our experienced Master of Ceremonies, Richard Ashdown.”

Farawaysports is an independent content brand set up by sports betting platform supplier FSB (fsbtech.com) to promote remote sporting events, which can be hosted, played and syndicated remotely. It all started with an idea from Mark Blandford, Chairman of FSB and a competitive darts player before he founded Sportingbet. Dave McDowell, CEO of FSB states: “It’s been a whirlwind – but we’re ready now to distribute the suite of Farawaysports’ in-play data, odds and streaming content. Game on!” Remote sports are especially relevant in the context of Covid-19 but they may have legs in the future. Dale notes: “The world has shifted these last few weeks. People are becoming more comfortable with remote modes of working and enjoying leisure activities”.

Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle?

Last offseason, the NFL decided to ban the hip drop tackle. For those unaware, a hip drop tackle occurs when a tackler wraps up a ball carrier with both hands or arms then swivels his hips and unweights himself (leaves his feet) to complete the tackle.
