- The field for AP College Basketball Player of the Year is wide open with nine players at +900 odds or shorter
- Seton Hall guard Myles Powell (+400) is the favorite, followed by Iowa big man Luka Garza (+550)
- Dayton sophomore Obi Toppin (+700) is gaining national attention for his high-flying jams
Myles Powell is the new favorite to win AP Player of the Year after exploding for 34 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in a 78-71 win over Georgetown on Wednesday night.
Jumping from +1000 one month ago to +400 today, the preseason All-American has helped No. 12 Seton Hall gain a two-game lead in the Big East heading into Saturday’s showdown at Villanova.
However, with a handful of players still in the running for the award, there could be a lot of movement in the final weeks before March Madness. Let’s check the latest odds at BetOnline and look at some of the other top contenders.

Obi Toppin (Dayton) | +700 |
Peyton Pritchard (Oregon) | +700 |

PLAYER OF THE YEAR CONTENDERS
There is more than one Luka dominating the basketball world. Iowa junior Luka Garza (+550) is fourth in the country in scoring (23.2 points per game) after putting up 20+ in eight straight contents, while averaging 10 rebounds per game.
The 6-foot-11, 260-pound forward has been dominating the Big Ten, helping the Hawkeyes to wins over Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Maryland in the past month. On the other hand, No. 17 Iowa did get crushed by Purdue 104-68 on Wednesday night.
Luka Garza (@LukaG_55) had a 10-pound cyst removed from his stomach in 2018.
Today, the @IowaHoops star is a NPOY frontrunner.

Cassius Winston (+600) put up 25 points and nine assists in Michigan State’s upset-loss to Penn State on Tuesday. He also drained two threes in the final 11 seconds of Saturday’s 64-63 defeat to Wisconsin.
Regardless, the theme here is losing. The senior point guard will have a hard time winning the award if the Spartans continue to disappoint down the stretch.
OTHER GUYS IN THE RUNNING
An inadvertent elbow knocked Markus Howard (+700) out of Marquette’s 84-82 double-OT win over Xavier on January 29, but the nation’s leading scorer (27.9 PPG) was back in business last Saturday, pouring in a game-high 31 points to rally the Golden Eagles to a 76-72 victory over DePaul.
Unfortunately, the senior point guard doesn’t rack up a lot of supporting stats and Marquette is unranked. Winning AP Player of the Year without making the tournament will be near impossible.
“I’m the best dunker in the country”: Obi Toppin is Dayton’s flyer https://t.co/VOsPo288AE

A better bet might be Dayton forward Obi Toppin (+700), who’s earning national attention for his high-flying dunks.
Projected to be a surefire top-five pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the sophomore forward is averaging 19.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in leading the No. 6 Flyers to their highest ranking since 1968.
While Toppin is playing against subpar mid-major competition, that shouldn’t hurt him too much in a wide-open year where the majority of the POY favorites are playing for smaller schools.
Best Bet: Obi Toppin (+700)
