Updated 2020 National Championship and Heisman Odds After Week 9

  • BetOnline‘s updated National Championship and Heisman odds have shifted wildly at the top after Trevor Lawrence’s coronavirus diagnosis
  • Alabama (+200) and Ohio State are the new National Championship co-favorites after Week 9
  • Justin Fields (+150) and Mac Jones (+150) are in a dead heat in the Heisman Trophy race

It’s not every year that a Heisman Trophy favorite on the No. 1 team in college football comes down with a deadly disease but here we are. Trevor Lawrence’s coronavirus diagnosis kept him out of Clemson’s narrow victory over Boston College in Week 9, and the 21-year-old quarterback will also miss next week’s tilt with Notre Dame.

Lawrence’s diagnosis has created a huge shift in both the National Championship odds and the Heisman Trophy race with Alabama (+200) and Ohio State (+200), and their quarterbacks Justin Fields and Mac Jones (+150), now leading the way. Let’s check the latest odds.

CLEMSON SURVIVES SCARE

After being down 18 points in the first half, freshman quarterback DJ Uiagalelei threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns to rally Clemson (+225) to a 34-28 win over Boston College on Saturday. The Tigers now head to Notre Dame (+2500) in Week 10 for its biggest game of the season. If the Fighting Irish can take advantage of Lawrence’s absence, they suddenly have an excellent shot at making the four-team CFP Semifinal.

While Clemson proved they could win without their star QB, Alabama (+200) did just fine without electric receiver Jaylen Waddle, who was lost to a season-ending ankle injury last week. DeVonta Smith, put up 203 receiving yards and four scores in a 41-0 spanking of Mississippi State.

The Crimson Tide will now enjoy a bye before heading to Baton Rouge to face an LSU squad that has already lost three times, including Saturday’s 48-11 defeat at the hands of Auburn.

Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan team suffered its latest disappointment with a 27-24 loss to its rivals in Michigan State, ensuring the Wolverines’ appearance on last week’s National Championship odds board will be its last.

Florida (+2800) and Georgia (+1800) took care of business on Saturday, setting the stage for an enormous Week 10 tilt that will put the winner in pole position for a playoff spot.

2020 HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS

Justin Fields (Ohio State QB) +150 +150
Mac Jones (Alabama QB) +150 +600
Trevor Lawrence (Clemson QB) +225 -120
Zach Wilson (BYU QB) +2800 +3300
Devonta Smith (Alabama WR) +3300 +4000
Kyle Trask (Florida QB) +3300 +3300
Najee Harris (Alabama RB) +4000 +2500

Kellen Mond (Texas A&M QB) +6600 N/A

JUSTIN FIELDS AND MAC JONES

We implored you to bet Justin Fields at +700 a few weeks back and now the horse has left the barn. After leading his Buckeyes to a 38-25 win over Penn State in Week 9, Fields (+150) has now completed 48-of-55 passes for 594 yards and six touchdowns in his first two games of the season.

Previously, the biggest thing working against the Ohio State quarterback winning the Heisman was that Lawrence was set to play three more games due to the Big Ten’s shortened scheduled.

However, with Clemson’s long-haired god also set to miss next week as well, suddenly voters will have a more apples-to-apples comparison before submitting their vote.

And we can’t forget about Mac Jones (+150). After throwing another four scores against Mississippi State on Saturday, the Crimson Tide junior now has 16 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on the year and is being boasted as the Heisman favorite by 2007 winner Tim Tebow.

Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle?

Last offseason, the NFL decided to ban the hip drop tackle. For those unaware, a hip drop tackle occurs when a tackler wraps up a ball carrier with both hands or arms then swivels his hips and unweights himself (leaves his feet) to complete the tackle. The result of the tackle typically leaves the tackler […] The post Are NFL Players Safer Without Hip Drop Tackle? appeared first on Sportsbook Advisor . from Sportsbook Advisor https://ift.tt/m09iAka via IFTTT
