On Saturday, November 28, two legendary boxers face off in an exhibition bout at Staples Center. That contest features Mike Tyson and Roy Jones, Jr. Before that fight takes place, Jake Paul faces Nate Robinson on the undercard of that contest.
Paul is best known for his YouTube videos. The 23-year-old has over 20 million YouTube subscribers. The 36-year-old Robinson played in the NBA for parts of 11 seasons. He finished his basketball career in 2018 when he was waived from the Lebanese Basketball League. The Phoenix Suns picked Robinson in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft.
Paul has one professional fight to his name. He defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib via first round stoppage. Robinson does not have a professional boxing match under his belt.

PAUL vs. ROBINSON PREDICTION & PICK
The biggest factor in this fight is going to be boxing experience. Paul has been working on his skills for over two years while Robinson has been at it for less than six months. That might seem like a slight difference, but it isn’t. Paul made substantial progress between his first amateur fight and his pro debut. Robinson has an advantage in athleticism and that will help him some, but he just doesn’t have the boxing reps.
Pick: Paul
BETTING VALUE WITH PAUL
I think Robinson has the potential to make it to the end of the fight because he has been an elite athlete his entire life. However, I don’t know how well he’ll take a punch in an actual fight. There is a difference between hard sparring and fighting. That there will not be fans in attendance should help Thompson avoid a massive adrenaline dump, but I would bet he will feel some of that just because this is his first boxing match. Even with his big-time basketball experience Thompson is bound to feel some butterflies, after all, this is a fist fight.
I think Paul’s skills, which are limited but getting better, will serve him well, especially his jab, which he uses to set up his power punches. This comes down to if you think Robinson has the defensive boxing skills to go the distance. If you think he does, bet Paul for a decision win, if not a knockout or TKO is the way to go.
WHO HAS THE EDGE?
Paul is the more experienced boxer of these two and that means a lot. He’s also longer and taller than Robinson which will give him a big advantage in landing jabs. Paul has a decent jab and he can put together some two or three punch combos. He uses hooks as his power punches. Those hooks have the potential to mess with the equilibrium of his opponent and drop him to the canvas.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
This fight could set Paul up to face KSI, who defeated Paul’s brother Logan in a pro boxing match in 2019.
The stakes are much lower for Robinson, this fight will be a test to see if he wants to continue boxing and allow his team and fans to gauge where he stands as a boxer.
